Crystal River Archaeological State Park

A National Historic Landmark, this 61-acre Native American ceremonial site was active and abandoned before Europeans ever arrived in the Western Hemisphere. It consists of burial mounds, temple/platform mounds, a plaza area and a substantial midden. The six-mound complex is one of the longest continuously occupied sites in Florida. For 1,600 years the site served as an imposing ceremonial center for Native Americans. Temple Mound A remains the highest geographical point in Crystal River. The park sits on the shores of Crystal River and an expansive coastal marsh.Open 365 days/year; 8 am to sunset.Museum: Open Thurs - Mon; 9am-5pm
